Is every day overwhelming to you? Do you wish you had a different life but don't know where to start?
How do you manage to be both mom and dad, teacher, cheerleader, diaper changer, breadwinner, student, and more, all on the same day? How do you handle it when the daycare or school calls again and says your kid is sick when you have deadlines at work and no one to help? Just managing each day is too much, and you can't possibly take time to think about and plan for your future.
But you can have a different life. You can have joy. You can have peace. You can know that what you are doing makes a difference. Spoiler alert: You still have to change diapers and deal with the school.
How? Start small and start now. Set your target and keep the "end" in mind.
But what is the target? If you are a Christ-follower, the end is to be like Jesus. You may not have a clear vision of your future, but you can begin with a clear vision of who you want to be. Every Christian has the purpose or "job" of following Jesus and becoming like him. When you follow Jesus and connect to him, you are filled with the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:1-17). When you follow and connect to Jesus, you develop wisdom and learn to hear his voice.
Follow Jesus one scripture at a time. If today is your "start small" day, just take one scripture and read it over and over. Think about what it means and what it means for you. Ask God to show you how to apply that scripture to your situation. Ask him to help you become more like him.
Start with Jesus. He is wisdom, and He is your life. Connect with Him first. The rest follows.
